Position Title: Early Childhood Educator

Location: 102-3962 Borden St, Victoria, BC V8P 3H8, Canada

Start Date: As soon as possible

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $34.62 - $34.92 per hour (CAD)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 30-40 hours per week, scheduled between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (6–8-hour shifts with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break)

About Us

Next Level Childcare Society is a fully licensed childcare facility providing quality care for children from birth to 5 years of age. We are currently seeking dedicated Early Childhood Educators to join our team and work with children aged 0 to 3 years.

 

Job Responsibilities

Observe and assess children's development to plan individualized learning activities

Support co-workers with light housekeeping, meal prep, and care routines

Bathe, feed, and diaper infants and toddlers

Create and lead programs promoting children’s overall development

Keep equipment clean and organized

Read stories, teach songs, and lead creative activities

Supervise assistants, trainees, or volunteers

Communicate children's progress with parents

Assist in program delivery and record keeping

Guide children in daily routines like eating, dressing, and toileting

Set up rooms for meals, rest, and activities

Monitor behavior and learning issues; report findings

Attend team meetings to discuss children's needs

Follow licensing standards and safety guidelines

Build strong relationships with colleagues and community partners

Maintain a safe and nurturing environment

Oversee and coordinate educator and assistant activities

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or college diploma required

Valid Early Childhood Educator (ECE) certificate

Current First Aid certification

Experience an asset

Satisfactory criminal record check

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

 

Early Childhood Educator Skills

Assess the children’s development in order to prepare a learning plan tailored to his needs; Assist co-workers in housekeeping and cooking duties; Bathe, diaper and feed infants and toddlers; Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children; Maintain daycare equipment; Storytelling; Supervise staff, trainees or volunteers; Synthesize the overall situation of the children and communicate the information to the parents; Assist early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children; Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest; Order supplies and equipment; Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records; Encourage children to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity

 

Additional Skills

Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts; Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits; Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods; Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor; Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors; Discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings; Knowledge of licensing regulations; Establish guidelines for behaviour; Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children; Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children; Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children; Supervise and co-ordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants
