We, Gateway College Inc. o/a Gateway College are looking for 1 full-time and permanent Educational Counsellor. (We can consider Part-time as well as Full-time applicants)

Job Title: Educational Counsellor

Job position available: 1

Terms of Employment: Permanent, Full-time

Wage & Benefit: C$43.27/hr based on 30 ~36 hrs/wk, with 4% paid vacation.

Overtime: Overtime rate will be provided after 8 hrs/day or 40 hrs/wk

Education: A bachelor’s degree in counseling, education, social sciences, or a related program is required.

Work Experience: At least 2-3 years of work experience in education or a related field are required

Job duties:

- Answer questions about the school curriculum and help students with program selection and develop personalized plans for students according to their learning styles, skills, abilities, and interests.

- Assist international students in the process of study permit/visa acquisition required to legally study in Canada and facilitate their transition to the Canadian curriculum.

- Supervise students’ course schedules, attendance, and address any questions and issues they have pertaining to the adjustment to the school.

- Provide information regarding acceptance and graduation including admission requirements, submission deadlines, and how to request documents from third parties.

- Provide information about career options for graduates upon completion of programs/certifications and their post-graduation routes.

- Administer and analyze results of the standardized tests for academics, job aptitudes or personality for the placement of students to appropriate programs.

- Collaborate with the teachers and parents about students’ progress and concerns and provide counselling and resources accordingly.

- Connect with employers in healthcare and administrative settings and have updated knowledge about their employment requirements, styles and schedules and arrange for them to meet graduates from the school for co-op/practicum or recruits.

- Work with students pertaining to exploring careers, developing strategies for job search, interview skills, and writing resume and cover letters.

- Develop and administer workshops or seminars regarding exam preparation/coping strategies and other educational activities.

- Counsel or direct students to professional help regarding personal and mental issues such as depression, anxiety, relationships and family problems.

- Participate in workshops and seminars for educational counsellors in other institutions, colleges, and universities.

- May supervise or teach classes or accompany students with field trips, conferences, and special events.
