Job Requirements

Languages

Education

College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years in music related program

Formal training in piano is required

Experience

Minimum 1 year experience teaching the piano

Credentials

Royal Conservatory of Music Certification Level 10 or equivalent certification

Tasks

  • Provide individualized piano lessons based on the age, abilities and goals of each student
  • Teach students piano technique and performance skills
  • Teach students music theory including scales, chords, and rhythm patterns
  • Observe students’ learning progress to ensure proper techniques are followed, and that students are responding appropriately to teacher’s feedbacks
  • Assist students to develop practice habits including regular attendance, regular practice, and ensuring proper posture when playing
  • Encourage and guide students to prepare adequately for the Royal Conservatory of Music exams
  • Prepare students for public events, recitals, and music competitions such as North York Music Festival, International Music Festival and Competition (IMFC), Ontario Music Festivals Association Provincial Finals (OMFC) 
  • Consult with parents on a regular basis
